Have to connect it directly to a USB port on the computer. I purchased this item on sale for my wife. She is quite happy with it. Started to use it right away a week ago. February 6, 2013

As a senior citizen I wanted ease of installation and to be able to find my scanned picture on my computer. EPSON you really delivered.
