- Supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Fast Ethernet Fibre Channel Networking
- Data Transfer Speeds up to 8Gbps
An intelligent self-managing 2U rack-mountable device, the HP StorageWorks D2D4312 Backup System comes with a 12TB capacity and speeds of more than 325 GB/hour with dual iSCSI interfaces. The D2D4312 Backup System boosts performance and reduces the backup window for small and medium sized data centers. It also features Dynamic deduplication which over a period of time cleverly removes redundant data to reduce the amount of backup capacity required on disk, resulting in up to 50x more backup data retained in the same raw 12TB disk. This cost-effective approach allows you to store more data on disk for longer, providing access to an increased number of available 'recovery points' and faster restore of lost or corrupted files.
Seamlessly integrating into your existing Windows or Linux environment, the D2D4312 Backup System works with your software applications to automate the simultaneous daily backup of up to 16 servers into a single network-connected solution. Not only are there fewer devices to manage but reduced media handling also results in fewer errors and hardware-based RAID 6 further enhances reliability and lowers the risk of disk-based failure. Additionally the intuitive, web-browser based management interface lets you monitor your backup device from remote locations at any time.
While the D2D4312 Backup System is ideal for daily backup jobs, regular offload to tape is still recommended as part of a disk-to-disk-to-tape (D2D2T) solution combining the high data availability of disk with cost-effective long-term archival and offsite disaster recovery using tape. An easy-to-use tape offload feature allows you to copy or export cartridges from the system to a physical tape without affecting the performance of the network.
If you are a medium sized data center or a data intensive small business, then the HP StorageWorks D2D4312 Backup System provides you with a better way to protect your data.

Compatibility Notes
|
Server Support: The HP D2D4000 Backup System is supported on servers that use Microsoft Windows or Linux operating systems, including HP ProLiant, HP Integrity Servers and a variety of third-party servers. OS Support: The HP D2D4000 Backup System is supported by the following operating systems: Windows using MS iSCSI initiator Linux using OpeniSCSI initiator HP-UX 11.23 and 11.31 Solaris 10 Software Support: The HP D2D4000 Backup System is supported by a range of popular backup applications, including HP Data Protector.
Tape drive compatibility: The HP D2D4000 Backup System supports direct connection to HP External LTO-2, LTO-3, and LTO-4 tape drives and HP Internal LTO-2, LTO-3, and LTO-4 tape drives using an appropriate host bus adapter installed in either a HP 1U or 3U Rack-Mount Kit Backup to autoloaders and libraries is also available across the network, using the tape-to-tape (or media copy) feature in your backup.
Network Compatibility: For the best performance, the HP D2D4000 Backup System should be connected to the servers it protects via a 1Gb (gigabit) Ethernet network. It is supported on all 1Gb Ethernet network interface cards (NICs) and switches. The device will run on either IPv4 or IPv6 networks. The HP D2D4000 Backup System is also supported on 100 base-T Ethernet networks, but performance will be severely restricted. This product is not supported on networks using slower Ethernet technology. The D2D4000 Backup System communicates data over your Ethernet network using iSCSI technology. For Windows systems, this requires installation of the Microsoft iSCSI Initiator 2.02 (or above) software driver on each server that will be backed up to the HP D2D4000 Backup System. This initiator is downloaded and installed from Microsoft automatically by the installation wizard and is also available via free download from the Microsoft website at: link. For supported Linux operating systems, a software iSCSI initiator is provided with the operating system but may need to be installed separately if not included in the initial operating system installation.
RAID Support: Hardware RAID 6
