The Virtual Private Network (VPN) capability creates encrypted "tunnels" through the Internet, allowing up to 50 remote offices or traveling users to securely connect into your office network from off-site.

Rated 1 out of 5Â by clay53 Older Was Better I recently decided to purchase a new RV082 with version 3 hardward to replace an older RV082 which has performed flawlessly for years. The new router was easy to setup but after several hours computers on our small business network could not access the Internet. I put the old router back into service and everything worked fine. PCConnectoion replaced the router with another new router, but the same problem persisted. Sometimes I could get the router to work for a day or two, but eventually we lost access to the Internet. I contacted cisco, but they were of no help. They could not explain why the old router worked flawlessly, while the new version did not. Eventually I had to return the new RV082 and replace it with a router from another manufacturer, which is performing well. I'll keep my old RV082 as a backup router. April 17, 2013

I run a small lan with only about 10 devices - computers, wi-fi and internet capable TVs but it was bogging down my old 4-port routers (I had three connected together. I had good success with a previous Cisco Purchase so I went for rv-082 8 port router. One slot goes to a WAP with the final 3 devices connected via wi-fi. With my old linksys lashup I was rebooting the routers every day - towards the end several times a day to keep everything running. Since I plugged the Cisco in it has run flawlessly without a single reboot. Even the VPN virtual line to my office (another small lan) has not gone down. This is important because often the ISP will change the URL of the home cable modem if the link goes down. Then I have to go to the office and plug in the new numbers. I'm beginning to get used to things actually running like they should have all along! I unhesitatingly recommend the Cicso rv-082 to anyone who needs a reliable vpn router with an eight port switch. My only gripe is that because it's designed for rack mounting, all the cat6 plugs are in the front. Not the nicest look on my desktop but I'm getting used to it! September 13, 2011
