The HP StorageWorks DAT 40 tape drive is a fast, dependable backup solution for smaller servers. This DDS-4 tape drive stores 40 GB of compressed data on a single cartridge at a rate of 21.6 GB/hr (assuming 2: 1 data compression). It reads and writes DDS-4, DDS-3, and DDS-2 formats, with the added bonus of reading DDS-1 90m tapes as well, making it compatible with most of the 10 million DDS drives that are in use today. Providing an ideal balance between capacity and performance, the DAT 40 benefits from low media costs and superb reliability. This drive comes in four models - internal, external, hot-plug, and offline hot-swap array module - plus it fits in HP's 3U rack-mount kit. HP StorageWorks DAT drives are based on Digital Data Storage (DDS) format, the most successful tape backup format of all time, with a worldwide installed based of over 10 million drives.
