I have been using Epson C88+ printers for about 10 years. I started with a C88, and then upgraded to C88+. I do some large print runs, and one of the features I like best about this (and other Epson models) is the separate ink cartridges for each color instead of a tri-color cartridge. Some projects use a lot of blue and little red, etc., and I don't have to change the whole cartridge when I run out of just one color. I have probably had 7 C88+ printers over the years, and am glad they are still making them.

I have two computers running on different OS: a desktop with Ubuntu Lucid Lynx and an old notebook running WIN 98SE. This was one of the few printers with drivers that would span the systems.
The printer installed entirely Plug & Play in Ubuntu and very easily into WIN 98SE with the CD. Have only had it a few days however if it's anything like my last Epson, I expect great service for a long time to come.

I've owned several Epson printers over the years, but none of them beats the Stylus 88+ for crisp printing, durability, reliability, everything you hope for in a printer. The design is retro, for sure, but looks should be last on your list of qualities. This is a powerful, dedicated machine that will become your good friend.

My C88, aka C.A.Teeate, has served me faithfully since the day he arrived. Sadly, I am now receiving a message when I click Print indicating that the end of his life is near. He always has been glad to do any task requested of him, including printing on felt, wood veneer, flocked paper and kimono silk. His ability to print beautiful photos was outstanding, and although he sometimes seemed slow to complete a job, the results were always well worth any wait. Throughout his long career there have been only two occasions of his trying to eat a sheet of paper and choking, but a minute or two with a pair of tweezers was all that was needed. The only maintenance he has been given is a monthly brushing and blowing of his innards to remove paper dust, and every 6 months or so his guts get a gentle wipe down with a small sponge dipped in alcohol, to remove any gunk. Individual ink cartridges have been a definite 'plus' as I do a lot of high quality colour printing. A C88 may only do one thing, but it does it to perfection, and when C.A.Teeate's death knoll sounds, I will not hesitate to choose one of his siblings as his successor.
