The D-Link ADSL2/2+ Modem with 4-Port Ethernet Router (DSL-2540B) is a 2-in-1 device that combines the function of a DSL modem and 4-port 10/100 Ethernet router. The DSL-2540B supports the latest ADSL2/2+ standards to provide higher performance (up to 24Mbps downstream and 3.5Mbps upstream) and longer reach from your Internet Service Provider’s (ISP) Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM). You can also create a wired network to share your high-speed Internet connection, documents, photos, music, videos, printers, and Network Attached Storage (NAS).

Unlike a dial-up Internet service, a DSL Internet connection is always on so that you do not have to wait to access the Web. Setting up the DSL-2540B is simple since it automatically detects your DSL settings to quickly establish a connection to the Internet. With support for TR-067, compatibility with your ISP’s infrastructure is ensured. This device also supports TR-069, which automatically updates the firmware and other settings when they become available from your ISP.

The DSL-2540B includes a built-in QoS engine that helps prioritize Internet traffic to enable smooth Internet phone calls (VoIP) and lag-free online gaming. In addition, this device includes Dual Active Firewalls (SPI and NAT) to help protect your network from potential attacks from across the Internet. With a built-in 4-port 10/100 Ethernet router, up to four network-ready computers or devices can simultaneously be connected to the DSL-2540B.

Rated 5 out of 5 Works as advertised Context: Home personal / office setup; AT&T DSL; 3 Macs. I spent a disastrous month trying and failing to get a LinkSys BEFSR41 to work reliably with my rock-solid Speedstream 4100 DSL modem, getting only about 20% uptime over 4 frustrating weeks. I decided to eliminate all possible modem / router issues and try an all-in-one unit. The D-Link DSL-2540B worked perfectly out of the box using the same setup parameters I'd used before. To be fair, the admin features basically mirror the LinkSys unit's, so I was already familiar with procedures and issues. More explanatory documentation would make this unit even more easily usable. I'd suggest adding small legs underneath to help with ventilation. This unit works well, works from the get-go, and keeps on working! Kudos to D-Link for a solid plug-n'-play unit! March 11, 2010

Rated 5 out of 5Â by FeedbackGuy Great Pperformer First D-link product I ever bought. Usually buy Linksys network stuff. Upgraded my DSL to 10 Mbps and my old modem couldn't handle it. After some Googleing I decided to try the D-Link. Installation was quick and easy. It was up and running quickly and it works very well. I'm able to run at full speed - usually a little over 10 Mbps and I stay connected for long periods of time (days / weeks). I think they can improve the interface by 1) having individual help screens for each page and, 2) Providing a screen that gives you the amount of time you've been connected since the last reconnect. In addition to working well the unit looks nice - black and silver with green LED's! Also, I have a 2nd router hooked to it and all works fine. March 13, 2009
