Ordering Information
The Speedlite Transmitter ST-E2 from Canon is a 550EX-dedicated, clip-on Speedlite transmitter with direct contacts. It's compatible with Type A EOS cameras (E- TTL, autoflash) and Type B EOS cameras (Manual flash). It features 4 channels, a flash ratio control for A:B ratio: 1:8 to 8:1, in half- step increments or 13 steps, a high-speed sync mode and slave operation confirmation with test transmission button (slave A fires followed by slave B at 1/64 output). Before the flash fires, during FE lock, Adequate flash exposure is indicated by the flash exposure level icon lit in the viewfinder. Insufficient flash exposure is indicated by the flash exposure level icon blinking in the viewfinder. After the flash fires, ST-E2's flash confirmation lamp lights in green for 3 seconds. The Wireless slave SE mode cancels when you press the test transmission button or FE lock botton to turn on the slave unit. The wireless transmission is Infrared pulse, the indoor transmission range is approximately 39.4 - 49.2-feet, outdoor is approximately 26.2-32.8-feet and transmission coverage is ±40 degrees horizontal and ±30 degrees vertical. The ST-E2 power source is a 2CR2 lithium (6V) battery x 1 with a battery life of approximately 1,500 transmissions (at room temperature and with a new set of batteries). The AF-assist beam is compatible with EOS-3's 45-point Area AF and 28mm and longer lens focal lengths and its effective range is approximately 2.0 to 16.5-feet along the periphery (in total darkness). While the power switch is set to I or HOLD, the transmission turns off automatically after about 90 seconds of non-use.
